Associate Principal Scientist, Bioscience, Oncology

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oncology Bioscience group in Cambridge as a scientific lead and laboratory based scientist. You will become part of a team of bioscientists and play a pivotal role in the delivery of robust and high quality ex vivo data to support drug discovery projects within the Oncology portfolio. Working in this scientific leadership role you will apply your technical and scientific knowledge of single cell profiling to deliver innovative single cell analysis strategy and working with our bioinformatics department deliver data packages for projects across the oncology portfolio. We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Principal Scientist with scientific and technical expertise in single cell platforms and analysis. You should have a background in Oncology and a strong passion for experimental work & delivering data from the laboratory.

What you’ll do

  • Working in this scientific leadership role you will apply your technical and scientific knowledge of single cell profiling to deliver innovative single cell analysis strategy and data packages for projects across the oncology portfolio.

  • Designing, performing and interpreting pharmacodynamic tumour data from in vivo studies using protein and RNA/DNA profiling techniques eg Flow Cytometry, CyTOF, single cell sequencing, high throughput qPCR, and NGS.

  • Providing expert interpretation of the data, identifying innovative solutions to problems and putting forward plans for further experiments.

  • Communicating experimental data and key findings in a clear and concise manner to project teams.

  • Generating and maintaining clear experimental records.

  • Maintaining an awareness of current developments in the literature to support projects.

Essential for the role

  • PhD (or equivalent) in a biological science with at least several years of research experience post-PhD in academia or industry.

  • Hands-on laboratory experience performing and analysing single-cell sequencing experiments.

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with preparation of DNA/RNA libraries for NGS.

  • Strong hands-on skills in quantification of mRNA (e.g. single-cell sequencing and qPCR) and protein expression; (e.g. multi-panel flow cytometry, CyTOF etc.) are strongly preferred

  • Excellent scientific communication skills including both written reports (e.g. manuscripts) and oral presentations to broad and diverse audiences

  • Positive and collaborative team player with willingness to improve and learn new skills

Desirable for the role

  • Supervision experience

  • Experience with bioinformatic analysis or programming languages such as R or Python

  • Lab-based drug discovery experience in academic or pharmaceutical company setting

  • An understanding of the drug discovery process
