Job Description

Working within the UK 1 Engineering and Facilities Function, this position provides professional engineering support to the AstraZeneca Biologics – Liverpool facility. As a member of the existing technical team, the position proactively contributes to the Engineering activities. Providing a World Class service to the site, ensuring MedImmune UK1 computerised / control systems are maintained, in a continued compliant status.

Job responsibilities

  • Representing the Engineering and Maintenance department, on multi-functional teams. Delivering process, system and equipment improvements regarding data integrity compliance.
  • Working with the Engineering & Facilities team provide proactive support. To ensure that the automation / process equipment / BAS performs to the highest level of reliability & repeatability whilst maintaining compliance, to meet the demand on the manufacturing schedule.
  • Coordination and supervision of externally provided control systems support / service contracts, including the planning, co-ordination, review and approval of work activities and hosting of visiting Engineers.
  • Ensuring that all Control system activities are performed to EHS requirements.
  • Support automation system installations and modifications; including writing specifications and automation SOPs, programming, testing, and automation system maintenance.
  • Complete GMP change control in line with corporate and site procedures; timely progression of CAPAs, and support deviation investigations as the need arises.
  • Limited supervision, with little or no instructions required on routine work and general instructions given on new lines of work and special assignments.

Essential requirements

  • Chartered and shall be degree educated in either control systems or instrumentation engineering field.
  • A minimum of five years of automation experience, with at least two years of GMP experience in an FDA regulated manufacturing environment
  • The job holder shall be of a domain expert with their field of specialism.
  • Experience with SCADA Systems, PLC Systems, programming PLC ladder logic and PID control loops, Computerised Systems Validation, GAMP, and 21 CFG Part 11 is required.
  • Have people management experience of controlling visiting contractors, safe working methods and practices, the use of Permit to Work systems, including the reviewing of standard methodology and associated risk assessments.
  • Must be familiar with the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment for Pharma and / or Biotech facility, knowledge of GXP systems and practices, facility services and validation.
  • Specialist skills and knowledge shall include but not limited to:
  • Control systems certification(s)
  • Formal training in computerised system validation, GAMP, and CFR 21 Part 11
  • HMIs, Digital Electronic Displays, and Instrumentation
  • Data Historian programming and maintenance
  • Ethernet networks and server maintenance
  • Previous experience developing and leading an Automation Master Plan
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to handle multi-functional teams, with excellent organisation skills and capable of co-ordinating multiple tasks with timely results to support the business.
  • Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
