We are looking for a Data Insights Lead to be a key member of our Productivity Initiatives Team. The successful candidate will be passionate about the value of data to identify and drive new business opportunities across the enterprise.

GBS has built significant and mature data stores in recent years (e.g. Assurance Insights) spanning a wide range of business activities and with various proven use cases through 2020/21 and we are now at a point where this can be leveraged to drive new value. The Data Insights Lead would use GBS and other business data to better understand the business, draw out new insights (e.g. efficiencies. new ways of working), and work with business leaders to prioritise opportunities for savings, efficiencies and/or new ways of working.

The Data Insights Lead will proactively engage with senior business leaders; providing advice, guidance and support, enabling and influencing decision making to achieve optimal performance. The Data Insights Lead will be accountable for using enterprise data to provide advice, guidance and support; enabling and influencing decision making to achieve optimal performance. They will be viewed by customers as a business expert with a specialism in data who actively shapes specific business initiatives. They will be leading members of a global network of Finance Business Partners, Finance Business Managers and Business Analysts, sharing best practice and delivering valued support to the Business with global consistency and efficiency.

The role broadly includes the following key components:

  • Business opportunity identification: To explore and use enterprise data to find new business opportunities (e.g. savings, efficiencies, different ways of working) and pursue these through relevant business leader networks.

  • Business Strategy & Decision Support: To use data to support key business & investment decisions through ensuring dynamic resource allocation, targeted at value-creating opportunities, advising and guiding senior business leaders, using an excellent knowledge of customer requirements, balanced with an understanding of internal culture and climate

  • Business Performance: To use data to drive financial performance and business activity, to deliver and communicate performance and business planning reports, and to advise senior management on key drivers

  • Continuous Improvement, Governance and Coaching: To take a lead in using data to drive continuous improvement in Finance processes and capabilities and to lead financial risk management and financial governance

  • Business Strategy & Decision Support

    • working proactively with the business to understand future financial information needs and producing efficient solutions to meet these needs (Business Case Development, Benefits tracking, KPIs etc)

    • Assessing the relevant input required to lead others during difficult decisions

    • Negotiating and communicating effectively across teams and business units and with external parties to achieve a positive outcome

    • Being actively involved in review and development of short & long-term strategy

  • Business Performance

    • Using data to highlight opportunities, sensitivities & risks and delivering timely, accurate and granular reporting and commentary of [global] performance, linking business drivers to actual spend and forecast

    • Using data to proactively driving efficiencies including seeking cross functional process solutions

    • Exploring needs with internal customers and suppliers and utilising this information to improve business results showing significant commercial and business acumen

  • Continuous Improvement, Governance and Coaching

    • Initiating changes to improve working practices and processes and communicating these amongst relevant networks


  • Opportunities identified and delivered against with business customers

  • Focus and 360 survey results

  • Feedback from finance networks and business customers

  • Quality of business cases and decisions support materials

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Experience of working with data across multiple domains, including joining across disparate datasets

  • Experience using data to successfully implement new business opportunities

  • Ability to use (or learn quickly) data visualisation platforms, e.g. MicroStrategy, PowerBI.

  • Successful business partnering experience

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including oral & written.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of global and corporate business context


  • Experience of working in a global pharmaceutical organisation / deep understanding of the drug development life cycle and/or commercial aspects

  • Understanding of what is working well externally (e.g. through experience or ability to apply benchmarking)
