Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI) is a new department at AstraZeneca, embedding data science and AI across R&D to enable our scientists to push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines.

The role holder will join the Data Science Learning and Development team of DS&AI, which is critical in enabling data scientists to accelerate medicine development by providing them with collaboration, learning, and development opportunities.

What you’ll do

  • Be responsible for delivering on, and helping to shape, the content of the existing practical, instructor-led training courses offered by the R&D Data Science Learning & Development Team (DS&AI), strategically contributing to upskilling R&D scientists and accelerating data science impact across R&D. The current portfolio includes courses on basic programming (R and Python), statistical analysis, machine learning, coding best practices and analytical pipelines for ‘omics data (mainly transcriptomics and proteomics)

  • Work closely with the Senior Director and other within the team, to ensure that the training programme is scientifically balanced, the training courses support the full spectrum of AstraZeneca’s science, evolve in a timely manner, meet the needs of participants and are promoted effectively

  • Contribute to the development of new courses, in bioinformatics and data science related topics, in response to the needs of, and in collaboration with, AstraZeneca stakeholders

  • Contribute to the development of training materials for both self-study resources and instructor-led training courses

  • Deliver training sessions on one or more of the above mentioned topics, where/if appropriate.

Additionally, you will be involved in:

  • Supporting our existing trainers (both internal and external) in curriculum planning, development and delivery, as appropriate for different courses

  • Evaluating training courses through analysis of trainees’ feedback

  • Running training needs analysis to identify unmet gaps and consequently develop training solutions to address such gaps.

The ideal candidate

  • Has a degree in life sciences, statistics or computer science

  • Has experience in developing and delivering advanced scientific education and/or training in bioinformatics / data science related topics

  • Has working knowledge of either R or Python (not essential)

  • Is highly self-motivated

  • Has excellent organisation, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Has an aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail, even when juggling multiple projects

  • Is able to independently manage delivery in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment
