We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Department Manager for the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology within the School of Public Health.
The Department Manager will have overarching responsibility for the delivery of all administrative functions in the Department as well as directly supporting the academic mission through effective liaison with the Head of Department and the Manager of the School of Public Health. This exciting and rewarding role has a focus on the finances, people, risk, management of space, safety and compliance.
Duties and responsibilities
You will be supported by, and have line management responsibility for, the departmental administrative team. As Department Manager you are responsible for resolving complex issues related to funding, staff management, and the provision of facilities and services. Key relationships will be formed with the Head of Department, School Manager, departmental staff, the School of Public Health administrative team and College support services.
You should have relevant experience in a university environment with an in depth understanding of the complexities of working in the sector. You should have experience with the development of strategy related to research and financial management. You will have extensive experience of problem solving and working under pressure while co-ordinating the provision of an effective service.
Exceptional people management skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and motivate are essential, as is the ability to develop strong working relationships with staff at all levels. You will also have exceptional communication skills with the ability to be assertive, diplomatic, and engaging.
This post is full time, open-ended and will be based at the St. Mary’s Campus (Paddington). From August 2023, the department and the post will be located on the College’s White City campus.
