AstraZeneca is seeking an experienced Director to thrive within our Oncology Translational Medicine department to lead and oversee Oncology Translational Production Informatics efforts and direct the global portfolio of work in Data Ops and Governance. This individual will partner and coordinate with R&D IT, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI), Discovery, Early Clinical Oncology, Late Stage Oncology, Personalized Healthcare, and Biomarkers departments to enable compliant data sharing and analysis with the purpose of driving oncology drug development programs forward. You will seek to create alignment and open communication on the long-term data strategy, execution of prioritized efforts in a matrixed environment, and establish a framework of data operationalization and governance of key biomarker data.

What you’ll do

  • Primarily responsible for co-ordinating processes, resources, and managing global portfolio and relationships for the Oncology Translational Production Informatics Data Ops and Governance Team.

  • Align our efforts with key stakeholders (Oncology: Discovery, Early Clinical ONC, Late Stage ONC), Scientific Data Foundation (SDF), Data Science & AI (Data Office), Personalized Healthcare and Biomarkers, R&D IT

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and implements practical solutions for Production Informatics Data Ops and Governance, allowing it to operate more efficiently and reducing risks.

  • Acts as an owner within business improvement projects, with a deep understanding of processes and technology and science used in Production Informatics

  • Ensures current and future priority tasks within Production informatics are aligned to the business strategy and enterprise data platforms and strategy, and undertakes business improvement initiatives where this is not the case

  • Develops and manages execution of project plans for Production Informatics, including activities, resources, costs, roles, responsibilities and quality and ensures tracking of the project delivering on time and on budget

  • Evaluates and monitors the performance and efficiency of people and programs to ensure that implementation is on target, and effectively manages changes to project/program scopes.

  • Prepares presentation materials for management reports and key performance parameters.

  • Drives communication and recognition of Production Informatics scientific and technology achievements internally and externally, including social media and external conferences.

Essential for the role

  • Experience in genomics and computational biology

  • Experience in project management, coordination of mid-size cross-functional teams

  • Experience in data integration and data science techniques for biological/clinical data e.g. genomics.

  • Experience in project management methodologies including Agile

  • Experience managing a diverse portfolio of projects/programmes or in a similar role

  • Experience implementing policies, procedures and guidelines

  • Expert in FAIR data and implementation there of

Desirable for the role

  • Advanced degree within the field

  • Experience of working in a global organisation with complex/geographical context

  • Knowledge of relevant developments in the area of strategy and portfolio management

  • Broad experience of data and scientific strategy and portfolio management
