The Director of Project Services is a Director role reporting to the Head of Capital Projects in Global Engineering & Real Estate. You’ll have responsibility for project services across the global portfolio including cost management, organisational and risk management, progress measurement and scheduling, estimating, cash flow forecasting and contracts administration. As such you will determine the most optimal strategy for project services leveraging internal capabilities and external support, to drive the consistent implementation with established and clear performance targets.

You’ll be instrumental in ensuring the group dynamics of the project services team are built effectively and are maintained – driving a customer centric approach and behaviours that focuses on simplification and efficiency.

Though close collaboration with the leadership team in Capital Projects, you’ll ensure we are employing the latest and most suitable practices for our business.

You’ll focus on building capability within your area on a global level to support current work, future growth, and longterm needs of the enterprise.

As part of developing a strong talent pipeline we’ll expect you to establish and actively work with talent development within GERE but also connect in with other parts of AZ.

You’ll lead others to deliver efficient work processes and brilliant performance related to key global capabilities within cost management, planning, estimating and benchmarking.

What you’ll do:

You’ll establish stretched and effective KPIs and drive top performance globally and companywide (EMEA, Sweden, Americas, AsiaPac) in the delivery of project services on capital projects at GERE understanding that regional needs must be considered.

You will lead, coach and mentor a team across all Global Engineering and Real Estate (GERE) regions (EMEA, Sweden, Asia Pacific and Americas) to deliver top tier work processes and results related to Project Services for large capital projects.

We’ll expect you to build capability within your team to support current work, future growth, and long-term needs of the business.

You will “own” the standards and guidelines (or practices and principals) of our project controls delivery and will be expected to work in close alignment with our Business Process Owner of CPDP (stage gate process) to get these fully embedded into our core business process.

In addition, you will support development, and drive the implementation, of a coordinated project control approach for projects, using A/E and CM efforts taking into account contracting strategy and team structure. Ensuring there is a focus on accurate and robust project schedules being in place and are adhered to. You will further ensure a robust estimating database is established and maintained, with meaningful metrics and processes in place to complement the database with industry intelligence.

You’ll provide direct support to the Head of Capital Projects as key part of an end to end project delivery team ensuring that the Global Engineering leadership is appraised and knowledgeable on trends and key risks within approved projects.

Ideally with experience in Lean, you’ll drive continuous improvement activities and achievement of top tier performance for Global Engineering. This will include identifying and implementing innovation within project controls, including lessons learned and sharing information to benefit future projects.

A natural leader you will participate in pharma industry or project services forums and conferences. Creating and leading efforts for learning, sharing and other benefits. You will also identify and establish relationships with appropriate external resources to efficiently deliver the business requirements.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Business ideally supported by a Post-graduate Engineering qualification

  • Considerable bio-pharmaceutical or other process based industry experience & knowledge

  • Global Experience including team leadership and project controls – scope control, planning & scheduling, cost management, and estimating

  • Expert level knowledge in cost management, planning/scheduling, contracts administration

  • Experience in major scheduling software including Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, etc.

  • Industry presence & strong professional network in project control subject areas

  • Able to perform work as the need arises on project sites or at contractor office locations

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience from working with Lean

  • Certification in Project Control/Cost Engineering or Project Management

  • Engineering/Design and Construction field experience

  • Experience with delivering in a digital transformation environment

You will be located in either one of our hubs in Europe: Macclesfield-UK or Södertälje-Sweden. As an active team member, we may need your expertise at any of the AstraZeneca Manufacturing facilities, and we’ll need you to be able to travel internationally accordingly.
