At AstraZeneca, Global Quality is responsible for:

  • Excellence in Quality standards and patient safety across development, manufacturing and supply for AstraZeneca products

  • The Global Quality functional scope comprises 3000 FTEs across the world & ~$340m annual budget. The organisation plays a critical role in maintaining patient supply for all AstraZeneca’s products

  • Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Product Stability site activities across all AstraZeneca manufacturing sites (25+)

  • 10 Corporate functions (including Global Quality Internal Audit, Development Quality, Global QC/Stability)

The role holder will lead the Finance Partnership with the Global Quality function and specifically towards SVP Global Quality & Senior Quality Directors to achieve the strategic and operational goals of the Global Quality organisation and optimise product supply.

You will be part of the senior leadership team of that global function. Critical components of the role include:

Business Partnering driving operating leverage and sustained business performance:

  • Proactively engage with senior business leaders; providing advice, guidance and support, enabling and influencing decision making to achieve optimal performance supported by high quality business case preparation and evaluation

  • Ensure the function delivers its financial objectives through optimal resource allocation and capital planning

  • Identify opportunities to optimise end to end supply

  • Support opportunity to drive further COGS improvement through ongoing process efficiency

  • Support the sustainability agenda across Global Quality

  • Support the enhancement of productivity metrics delivered through an ambitious digital agenda

Financial Controllership

  • Strengthen financial policies, adherence and optimisation of the Financial Control Framework

  • Ensure strong governance and control mindset across Global Quality function and supporting GFS organisation

Change agent and process simplification

  • Leverage the ongoing Finance Transformation an MAP solutions to gain more insight from the planning and performance management cycle. Utilise new data to identify value-add opportunities

  • Drive process simplification across Global Quality and Supply chain utilising LEAN techniques review the cost/volume structure that spans Ops Supply

Developing team and people

  • Strengthen financial acumen and ownership of financial targets across the OQLT

  • Coach GFS supporting organisation to optimise service levels

Typical accountabilities in the role broadly include:

Business Strategy & Decision Support: To support key business & investment decisions through ensuring dynamic resource allocation, identifying and targeting value-creating opportunities, advising and guiding senior business leaders, using an excellent knowledge of customer requirements, balanced with an understanding of internal culture and climate

Business Performance: To drive financial performance using a good understanding of the business model and financial drivers, to challenge and influence the key cost drivers, setting stretching but attainable performance targets aligned to strategy and operational plans, proactively driving efficiencies including seeking cross functional process solutions

Continuous Improvement, Governance and Coaching: To take a lead in driving continuous improvement in Finance processes and capabilities and to lead financial risk management and financial governance in area of accountability

Essential skills and experience

  • Significant industry based experience

  • Successful senior business partnering experience

  • Experience of working in a global pharmaceutical organisation

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including oral & written.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders to drive business impact

  • Agility of approach with demonstrable track record of driving change

  • Successful track record of delivery in a shared service environment / complex matrix organisation, including coaching skills, holding others to account

  • Learner mindset, curiosity to challenge the status quo and identify and deliver on opportunities

  • Degree level education & relevant Finance or Accounting qualification

Desirable skills and experience

  • Understanding on Manufacturing & Supply Chain and quality processes
