Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Multifunctional Composites & Multifunctional Composite Structures

Job Summary

The Department of Aeronautics wishes to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Assistant/Associate Professor) in the area of multifunctional composites and structures made of these materials We expect the successful candidate to be an enthusiastic teacher and outstanding researcher who will help maintain our high levels of scholarship and research. In the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework exercise, 46% of the department’s research was assessed as “world leading”.

The department is very active in a range of research aimed at developing and applying theoretical, computational and experimental techniques to address the most challenging, fundamental problems in Aeronautics science and technology with the aim of reducing emissions, noise and weight of the next generation of aircraft including the establishment of a research network within the College focused on the theme of Green Aviation. The department is now intending to further grow its expertise in multifunctional composites.

The successful applicant ideally will have a strong research reputation in one or more of the following fields:

  • Development of multifunctional composites
  • Development of multifunctional composite structures
  • Analysis, design and optimisation of lightweight structures using multifunctional composites including systems level design
  • Manufacturing of multifunctional composites.

 

The potential to make milestone contributions is of the greatest importance.

 

This post has become available following Professor Emile S Greenhalgh being awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies to support his work on structural power composites. This highly prestigious award is the first to be awarded to the Department of Aeronautics and presents an incredibly exciting time to be joining the Department in this field.

 

Essential requirements

 

Applicants should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Engineering or Physics. They should also have an outstanding research record, as demonstrated by their publications, a good track record in securing research grants and contracts and experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Aeronautics field.
