It has been agreed that our AstraZeneca UK Commercial head office will move from Luton to Pancras Square, London in early 2022. This role will be initially based in our Luton office, until this move takes place.

It will bring AstraZeneca UK closer to our customers and partners in the UK’s healthcare environment, as well as develop greater collaboration with the wider AstraZeneca footprint.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the medical & scientific strategy to advance clinical practice in alignment with brand & business objectives

  • Lead portfolio launch strategy & execution (pre and peri launch), healthcare system & pathway change strategy, practice changing & real-world evidence, and omnichannel education initiatives

  • Provide strategic leadership to enable delivery of field medical objectives and important metrics through Field Medical Teams (MSL team and/or Medical Educator Team), aligned to national and regional cross-functional field team objectives

  • Support the Medical & Scientific input to business strategic and operational planning, including support of Policy team agenda

  • Support high level external partner engagement with external specialists, professional societies, and patient groups.

  • Support delivery of clinical insight, customer focus and clinical governance into commercial objectives

  • Represent UK in the Regional & Global Medical affairs teams for defined therapy area

Essential for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (ex: Medicine, Pharmacy or disease related science)

  • Extensive experience within Medical Affairs (2+ years) and/or within the Respiratory therapy Area

  • Track record of leadership across the medical-marketing interface

  • Prior experience in a Medical Affairs role – a minimum of 2 years for exceptional candidates is expected.

  • Extensive patient and customer insight through experience of working with the NHS (or similar health system)

  • Proven track record to influence and interact with external customers

  • Evidence of effective team working and accountability

  • Understanding of the ABPI code of practice

Desirable for the role

  • Technical expertise in the allocated disease/therapy area

  • Extensive experience of the UK pharmaceutical industry

  • Hold or acquired Nominated Signatory status (within 6 months)

  • Extensive experience in clinical trials & evidence generation
