Postdoc Fellow – Exploring genetic resilience using 500,000 exomes and genomes
Competitive Salary on Offer
Interested in contributing to genomics research? Here’s your chance!
AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world’s most serious diseases. We’re proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives – and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
Our Centre for Genomics Research (CGR) has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoc Fellow to contribute to its Genomic Initiative. The Genomic Initiative includes the sequencing of participants from AstraZeneca clinical studies as well as analysing the sequence data from large population cohorts, including the 500,000 UK Biobank participants.
About the Opportunity:
This role is an opportunity to be part of ground-breaking research at the forefront of human genomics using whole exome and whole genome sequencing data from the world-renowned UK Biobank to explore genetic drivers of disease resilience. People with strong genetic or environmental risk factors who remain healthy are disease resilient. This can be driven by genetic variants, and the genes that harbour those variants can represent promising candidate drug targets. Advanced access to whole genome sequencing data will allow structural variants and non-coding variants to be studied in addition to single nucleotide variants and indels. Phenotypic data includes hospital records, self-reported conditions, blood-based biomarkers, Olink proteomic data, and more.
Working alongside our CGR Analytics & Informatics team, and as part of our global Postdoc Fellows community, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with world leading specialists, both within and outside of AstraZeneca. Your research will lead to high quality peer-reviewed publications and opportunities to present at national and international meetings.
Don’t miss out on this vital research project! We’d love to have you join the team.
