Drug Substance Manufacture (DSM) is responsible for the internal manufacture of Drug Substance for formulation development, pre-clinical and clinical development studies. Drug Substance Manufacture is part of the Clinical Manufacturing and Supply function, within Pharmaceutical & Technical Development, Operations.
What you’ll do:
This opportunity is a Process Engineer working within our Projects, Process and Technology Team. Collaborating within a team of technical managers and process engineers you’ll deliver the API, process data and scale-up learning to support the AZ development programme.
You’ll be a change owner within the facilities, responsible for crafting and managing temporary and permanent plant changes, to support specific product accommodations, along with installation of new technology and improvements to build the pilot plant capability.
We’ll encourage you to manage and improve elements of our key business processes, to ensure that we maintain our licence to operate, and demonstrate excellence in safety, health, environmental standards and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).
You will be responsible for delivery of engineering projects within the DSM pilot plants. This could be for specific product accommodations, improvement projects, new technology or capability build.
You’ll also be required to support product manufacture by providing technical understanding to facilitate problem-solving, and may act as an engineering specialist on larger capital project teams.
We’ll expect you to adhere to internal, and external regulations, including cGMP, SHE, fiscal and business procedures.
We’ll need you to be able to work independently, and to collaborate within multi-functional teams. These will include DSM operational and maintenance teams, site project teams, external contractors and AZ support functions including SHE and QA teams.
You will also need to develop networks, in particular building and maintaining excellent working relationships with the Process Engineering teams within Chemical Development, while sharing scale-up learning and successes across the wider business.
- You will hold a relevant chemical engineering degree (preferred) or recognised chemical engineering training route (e.g. apprenticeship with HNC/HND or equivalent)
- A confident and engaging communicator who can influence a variety of business partners to drive success
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment
- Experience of chemical manufacture, preferably within the pharmaceutical sector
- Experience of Lean manufacturing and problem-solving
- Experience of handling plant changes in a regulated environment
