Project Manager – Global Process Owner

AstraZeneca’s Finance function is undergoing a transformation journey with a significant focus on the Record to Report process. Whilst a dedicated finance transformation programme is under way with significant resources delivering a number of inflight projects, the R2R Global Process Owner (GPO) function has been instrumental in developing a vision and roadmap for change. Furthermore, we are working closely with the Finance Transformation function, adopting a ‘one team’ mentality. The initial focus was standardisation and simplification with an evolution to optimising processes and driving an automation and technology agenda. This role reports to the R2R GPO. The GPO function reports to the Group Controller and supports users across the globe, including: Group Financial Reporting, Global Financial Services, Global Business Services, Marketing companies, and Operations. We operate in a truly global capacity.

What you’ll do

This role is responsible for leading the R2R portfolio of projects in the GPO function, driving the achievement of the R2R roadmap and leading relentless prioritisation in the face of competing demands and a changing operating landscape. The role will establish governance methodology that integrates responsibilities of the R2R GPO function with the equivalent Finance Transformation delivery teams, managing the roadmap against that methodology. The projects focus on our global standardisation and automation agenda and are underpinned by both strategic change and continuous improvement. The role has responsibility for shaping programme solutions and acts as a key liaison between the programmes and senior business stakeholders to ensure that business requirements are effectively translated into solutions and benefits are understood. They will support the development and management of supplier contracts, and manage programme transitions to business as usual services. The role is a key connection point to the Finance Transformation function and across all R2R roadmap projects for a joined up and holistic approach to process, data, technology and people/organisation. The role will ensure projects achieve business case realisation, are delivered on-time, on-budget and in adherence with quality/compliance standards, policies and procedures. The role may have accountability for elements of project(s) outside the immediate scope of the GPO function.

It is likely that this person has a good understanding of what best-in-class processes and technology look like in Record to Report, has a working knowledge of SAP and Blackline and can speak confidently with users, system architects and business stakeholders alike.

Essential for the role

  • Business Degree

  • Experience in programme/project management, with a proven track record

  • Experience in deploying structure around project delivery and industry specific and process experience

  • Demonstrate strong, communication and relationship building skills with experience of collaborating and sharing knowledge between teams

  • Evidence of shaping and developing innovative solutions that have a major impact within the business area and organisation

  • Strong networking/consulting skills with good internal/external links

  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language and in alignment with AZ business

  • Proven track record in delivering high risk programme/projects and decision making

  • Excellent business engagement and business acumen with sensitivity to political/economic environment

  • Experience of managing and controlling a budget

  • Experience of working within a quality and compliance environment and application of policies, procedures and guidelines

  • Experience of working in a global organisation with complex/geographical context

Desirable for the role

  • Project Management qualification

  • Professional accounting qualification

  • Experience of implementing significant business change across different national and business boundaries

  • Ideal candidate will have experience of working in a R2R GPO function

  • Experience of working in a SOx environment
