Project Manager, Tax – 12 month FTC

A key workstream of Finance Transformation is Tax. Our Tax Transformation team is embarking on the next wave of their transformation journey. This exciting phase is about working with the business to ensure AZ continues to meet the growing digital demands of Tax Authorities and regulators.

As Tax Authorities across the world adopt a ‘real time’ approach to collecting and analysing business data, we are looking to transform our processes, data and systems to ensure that AZ gets transaction data right first time at source to fulfil tax obligations. This programme will provide the unique opportunity to work across the businesses and functions being involved in the latest transformation and innovation topics required to meet tax authority demands.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Project Management team within Finance Transformation with a focus on Tax Projects. We are looking for someone who wants to contribute towards the tax transformation agenda in a Project Management capacity.

Our Project Managers have a background of working in finance, they work directly with internal stakeholders including Tax Portfolio Leaders, Finance Transformation PMO, Tax Project Lead, Tax Project Managers, Global Process Owners, IT and external consultants to ensure projects are managed appropriately to meet the objectives. Utilising Finance Transformation delivery methodologies and tools to ensure our Tax Portfolio projects are delivered to agreed scope, budget and timelines.

We are looking for someone with strong project management leadership, system design implementation, broad Finance experience as an essential and Tax project management experience as desirable. You will work independently on multiple concurrent projects, providing direction to the Tax Portfolio through your strong project management experience, methodology knowledge, deliverable and dependency management experience; strongly managing all workstreams to the agreed scope, time and budget.

Typical Accountabilities

Key accountabilities are to:

  • Apply developed and experienced based knowledge and skills in project management, project planning, benefit identification and tracking, RAID management, budgets and methodologies

  • Manage projects within the Tax Data Compliance Programme of work, project managing key stakeholders and activities including data, systems (particularly SAP), Transition to BAU, benefits, change management and deployment.

  • Create and execute project plans within change management principles and ensure correct escalation and visibility of changes; ensuring deliverables and benefits are met in line with approved business case

  • Manage project team in preparing and managing required project deliverables to meet timely project governance requirements supporting key governance checkpoints e.g. Project Charters, SteerCo packs, RAID logs etc

  • Work with SMEs and Stakeholders to develop transition plans into business areas and ensure controlled hand-overs to users and business as usual processes, utilising your Finance background to challenge where necessary

  • Mobilise and manage project resources, building and leading the project teams; identifying resources needed and communicating roles and responsibilities whilst encouraging teamwork, knowledge sharing and collaboration amongst the team and business stakeholders

  • Manage relationships with SMEs and key business stakeholders and ensure that business requirements are effectively captured and the impact of project/programmes are understood by the business, utilising your Finance background to challenge where necessary

  • Manage project governance and stakeholder communications for the relevant projects e.g. Working Group meeting, SteerCo meetings etc.

  • Resolve complex quality and compliance risks and issues and ensure team adopts quality assurance policies and procedures

Education, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Enthusiasm to work collaboratively with the Tax Technical SMEs

  • Excellent experience of Finance/Tax project management

  • Experience managing and controlling large and complex project and programme budgets

  • Project / Programme Management certifications – Prince, Agile, Lean & Six Sigma Skills

  • Experience working in a global organization where stakeholders and project team members are geographically dispersed.

  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability

  • Experience of delivery to multiple projects/customers


  • Hands on experience of working in Tax

  • Experience working on SAP transformation projects

  • Good presentation skills, including ability to summarise and clearly explain detail.
