What you’ll do

We are seeking a highly motivated Protein Scientist to help develop and implement our antibody production platforms that deliver biologics to the R&D arm of the organisation. The successful candidate will add to our team of multidisciplinary and passionate scientists excited by research at the interface between Technology and Biology. They will be a well-organized and a highly productive bench scientist that can design and execute experiments efficiently, as well as analyse, interpret and present data.

Essential for the role

  • A Batchelor’s or Master’s science degree in the life sciences

  • Experience in designing and conducting laboratory experiments; excellent molecular biology skills, protein biochemistry knowledge and experience, including recombinant protein expression, purification and characterisation

  • Experience in experimental method optimisation and troubleshooting experimental processes, ability to interpret experimental results

  • Good communication, capable of developing good working relationships with individuals across organisational boundaries and experience working within a team environment

  • An ability to learn and embrace new technologies quickly

  • Pro-actively contributes to development of new or improved high throughput protein expression processes

  • Prepares appropriate documentation such as electronic laboratory notebooks, contributions to patents and conducts work according to current AstraZeneca codes of practice

Desirable for the role

  • Experience with expression and purifications of antibodies and other biologics

  • Experience of working within an industrial environment

  • Experience of mammalian cell tissue culture, particularly for protein expression

  • Good working knowledge of laboratory automation and sample tracking systems
