Research Software Engineer within the Vibration University Technology Centre (UTC)

Job summary

The Dynamics group and Vibration UTC (VUTC) is seeking a Research Software Engineer to support their operating systems and computational hardware for their teaching and research activities. The post-holder will be key in supporting users of the group’s computational infrastructure and collaborating with the College ICT teams to ensure proper maintenance of hardware.

The VUTC is a world leading research centre in non-linear structural dynamics and aeroelasticity with strong industrial links and a strong impact on real world solutions to complex problems. The group is now in need of a specialist position to advise on the application of technologies and develop software which will accelerate research whilst also supporting researcher with less development software experience.

Duties and responsibilities

  • You will be the primary contact for the Dynamics group and VUTC in supporting and developing the software architecture and infrastructure to enable the continuation of research.
  • You will ensure that the code deployment remains within industrial partners compute estate
  • You will interact with other Department and College software support teams and develop training and guidance for the researcher community.

Essential requirements

  • You must have a postgraduate qualification which involved significant exposure to software development, or have equivalent experience.
  • You must have experience of full cycle software development and different operating systems.
  • You should have advanced skills in common research languages (e.g. Python, C++ etc)
  • Advanced skills in Fortran are essential.
