We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Oncology Bioscience group in London as a laboratory based scientist. You will become part of a large team of scientists and play a pivotal role in the delivery of robust and high quality data to support drug discovery projects within the Oncology portfolio. Working collaboratively with other disciplines across AstraZeneca, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of early phase projects. You’ll have a good understanding of the range of procedures relating to bioanalysis/bioscience. You will expertly design and conduct experiments, develop methods, generate, interpret and report scientific data. You will use your scientific judgement, ability to analyse data, lab experience and communication skills to contribute to experimental design and interpretation for early stage drug discovery programmes.

What you’ll do

AstraZeneca are seeking a highly skilled analytical scientist to work in our Tumour Targeted Delivery team. Based in the Spirogen laboratories in London, you will be an integral member of the analytical team focusing on the rational design of the assays and analytical methods required to study our new payloads, linkers and antibody drug conjugates (ADCs). ADCs are among the fastest growing drug classes in oncology.

  • Independently design and execute assays and use analytical techniques to study small molecules and ADCs

  • Perform routine/QC analysis of small molecules and ADCs

  • Work independently within a team and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficient relay of information

  • Communicate results to team members in a clear and concise manner

  • Be involved in the interpretation of data with little or no guidance with a clear understanding of its implications within drug discovery

  • Maintain a well-developed understanding of analytical techniques applying a broader functional knowledge to support the team

  • Regularly share relevant external published papers with peers

  • Ensure own work, and the work of others, is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)

Essential for the role

  • Ph.D and/ or M.Sc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical engineering or relevant discipline

  • B.Sc in above disciplines with extensive experience in LC-MS and assay developmen

  • Hands-on experience in bioanalysis and LC-MS/MS for measurement of proteins and small molecules

  • Experience in development and application of quantitative bioanalytical methods for small molecules and proteins

  • Deep understanding of chemistry and protein biochemistry

  • Strong multi-tasking, time management and organisational skills

Desirable for the role

  • Experience with Thermo QExactive or Orbitrap Exploris

  • Experience with other analytical technologies (e.g. SEC, HIC, CAD) and automation

  • Experience with programming languages such as R and Python

  • Understanding the process of successful drug discovery/drug development
