What you’ll do
We are currently looking for someone who has a good understanding and experience of the skills required for antibody discovery and protein engineering to support delivery of our next-generation biotherapeutics portfolio. In this role you will craft, lead and conduct laboratory projects/experiments, develop methods, generate, interpret and report scientific data and you will be more than proficient in trouble shooting and theory.
Independently defines objectives, leads the planning and execution of complex experimental work to isolate and optimise biologics (e.g. mAbs) for multiple drug discovery projects and/or technology development projects
Responsible for the isolation and optimisation of biologics, using in vitro and in vivo technologies, may perform biochemical/cell-based assays
Contributes expertise to multi-disciplinary research drug discovery/technology project teams, effectively communicating forward-looking recommendations and contributes to project team decisions based on their own findings, the findings of others, and factors from outside the company
Independently leads, plans, prioritises work activities. Provides decisions and recommendations which consistently advance technologies and projects
Establishes internal and external contacts and collaborations within scientific field of value to the business and presents findings at internal (intra- and inter-departmental) project team and function meetings
Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication by establishing good working relationships with team and department members and others within the company
Essential for the role
PhD with relevant experience or BSc/higher degree with equivalent lab-based experience
Extensive experience of antibody isolation and engineering (e.g in vitro display technologies, such as phage display), and characterisation including in vitro biochemical assays (ELISA, WB, SPR (Biacore) or BLI (Octet) and functional cell-based assays
Extensive experience in troubleshooting molecular biology (extensive experience in techniques such PCR, plasmid DNA preparations, cloning, side-directed-mutagenesis) and other protein engineering methods and track-record of evaluating and implementing novel technologies
Experience with DNA analysis software such as lasargene or geneious prime
Experience in protein expression (bacterial and mammalian cells) and purification using AKTA systems
Good communication, capable of developing good working relationships with individuals across organisational boundaries and experience working within a team environment
Desirable for the role
Display technology experience (phage, yeast or mammalian display technologies)
Experience of next-generation biologics development for oncology, e.g. multi-specific mAbs and antibody conjugates such as ADCs, would be desirable
Experience of next generation sequencing (NGS)
Experience in bioinformatics and data analysis for integrated data systems (such as Spotfire)
