AstraZeneca’s Finance function is continuing its transformation journey with the objective of delivering excellence in financial operations and reporting. The role is part of the Group Financial Reporting (GFR) team within Group Controllers. The role will work closely with Group Planning and Business Performance, R&D Finance, Operations Finance, Alexion Finance and Tax teams, as well as other parts of the business as necessary.

Following the acquisition of Alexion, the enlarged Group has undertaken a comprehensive strategic review across the organisation, aimed at integrating, optimising and prioritising the resources, structure and operations of the enlarged Group. This role will be a crucial part in AstraZeneca’s financial management and reporting of this initiative.

In this role you will…

Facilitate the implementation of this programme. This will be a mixture of direct ownership and responsibility for finance in respect of integration initiatives, and providing support to the wider finance community in the rest of the business.

The role reports to the Head of In particular, the role will:

  • Playing a central role from a Group Finance perspective for the AstraZeneca Restructuring governance process which includes maintaining and communicating Restructuring guidelines for initiative, quantitative and qualitative assessment of the business cases alongside Group Planning and Business Performance Team, as well as active project management and collaboration with relevant stakeholders

  • Advise on reporting treatment and provide other practical support as required by reporting units.

  • Monitoring the P&L, balance sheet and cashflow impacts of the programmes and ensuring they are line with expectations based on the approved business cases

  • Preparation of Restructuring-related presentations, financial and ad-hoc analysis to Group Finance stakeholders

  • Delivering monthly, quarterly and annual reporting commitments for AstraZeneca Restructuring including relevant deliverables associated with the Alexion integration from a Group Finance perspective

Essential skills and experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience of IFRS

  • Key Leadership Capabilities

    • Proven ability to communicate effectively across the organisation

    • Demonstrable experience of acting decisively in an ambiguous environment

  • Confidence to drive things forward and influence without direct authority

  • Ability to think strategically and work with others to develop solutions for Finance

  • Flexible with their own time to cover different time zones & urgent deliverables

  • Track record of building strong networks across a global business

  • Organised, with a natural sense of urgency & drive to take the initiative without being asked

  • Experience working in a controlled (preferably SOx) environment

  • Strong systems skills; advanced Microsoft Excel & Powerpoint, knowledge of Hyperion Planning including SmartView would be advantageous

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience of pharmaceutical industry, manufacturing supply chains

  • Strong cultural awareness and working effectively with cross-border stakeholders
